King Offa Song Competition - £200 Prize, see below
Latest update to this site: 24/Nov/01
The first song below here, Cloudwatching, is the winner of the King Offa song Competition for 2001.Cloudwatching is Copyright © C.R. Bakewell who is part of the Harborough band, Babagee. He can be contacted on 01858 461903. Carl Bakewell previously organised the Harborough folk music club and is now concentrating on producing more songs including a more up-tempo one "Seven Seas of Love". On "Cloudwatching" Carl's powerful vocals are supported by his wife Anna's strong keyboard rhythms and effects. For information on King Offa's connection to the Harborough area and to the Arthurian legends see my booklets listed above.

An entry form for the competition is available below here. The first prize for the competition is set at £200 which is from my earnings selling booklets on King Offa's life and times and that of his queen Cynethryth and their special place at the origins of English culture. So it is a charitable donation with the intention of supporting an aspect of modern culture in the area with roots in the distant past. I will give the songs over to an independent panel for judging in accordance with the criteria specified on the form below. I can pay the prize in $US if people prefer.
I have put some of my own songs below here though they won't be entered in the competition. These include:
